Melanie Klein, PhD is a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in treating children and adolescents with anxiety, mood disorders, and behavioral challenges. She has advanced training treating self-harm behavior, disordered eating, OCD, school refusal, and sleeping difficulties. Her expertise includes a variety of evidence-based treatments including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Exposure and Response Prevention, and Parent Management Therapy.
Dr. Klein earned her bachelor’s degree at Penn State’s Schreyer Honors College and her Clinical Psychology Ph.D. from the University of Washington. She completed her clinical internship at Hershey Medical Center and her post-doctoral fellowship at the Center for Mental Health at University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Klein conducts research on the development of self-regulation and emotional reactivity in children using behavioral, neurological and physiological indicators. She has worked with community mental health agencies through University of Pennsylvania to implement and evaluate treatment for children who have experienced trauma. In addition, she has supervised therapists at the University of Delaware to implement an evidence-based intervention for families of young children. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as Social Development, Child Development, and the Journal of Clinical Child and Adolescent Development.
In her free time, Dr. Klein stays busy chasing her three children, hiking with her shepherd, reading, and tackling home renovation projects.
